Liverpool FC could have made Premier League top four, admits Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Liverpool could have been in the mix for the Premier League’s top four this season.

Tomorrow’s final day trip to West Brom could see the Reds record a credible sixth-place finish ahead of their second final under Klopp, when they take on Sevilla in the Europa League showpiece.

But the Liverpool manager admits that his side could have climbed higher had it not been for a combination of factors, including an unprecedented injury crisis and a fixture pile-up.

He said: “You saw – a lot of good games. In the end, we have 59 points – five points more you’re in the middle of the party, that’s how it is. And we all know, and you know, we could have these points even in this season.

“Sometimes with fresher legs – I would not even say with less injuries – because that’s what we did well with these problems. And we had a lot of games – the most games I think in Europe.

“I could speak about the Premier League season without the other games, but we had them. We made our own problems with draws in the wrong moment, with replays in the wrong moment and with really good games in the Europa League.

“We could have had a few points more, it would change a lot. Now we’ve got 59, we can go to 62. I’m not too sure where it is in the history of Liverpool, probably not the highest number, so we have a lot of space to develop.”
