Liverpool have led the way in the final shortlist for this year’s FIFA The Best awards.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were listed in the running for all bar one of four available accolades in a ceremony at Milan’s San Siro stadium on Monday morning.
Klopp himself forms part of an all-Premier League shortlist for coach of the year with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino.
Alisson, who was crowned UEFA’s Best Goalkeeper last week, will vie alongside City stopper and compatriot Ederson as well as Marc-Ander ter Stegen of Barcelona.
Three Reds players were included in the original 10-man shortlist for the Men’s Best Player following starring roles in last season’s Champions League triumph.
But only Virgil van Dijk made it through to the final three, where he will again vie with Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Barca captain Lionel Messi.
Van Dijk beat the pair to be crowned UEFA’s Mens’ Player of the Year last Thursday in addition to being awarded the federation’s Best Defender accolade.
A combination of national team captains, coaches, fans and media will decide the winner of the awards, which will be announced on Monday, September 23.
