Andy Lonergan is set to join Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States.
Lonergan has been drafted in by the European champions ahead of their Stateside visit beginning on Tuesday in a bid to ease a goalkeeper crisis.
Alisson Becker is scheduled to report back to Merseyside at the end of July following his exploits with Brazil at the Copa America earlier this month.
With Kamil Grabara also set for a staggered return, academy duo Viteslav Jaros and Caoimhin Kelleher were expected to help Simon Mignolet in the interim.
However the pair are both sidelined for the Reds’ pre-season campaign with Jaros suffering an elbow injury while Kelleher has a similar problem with his wrist.
In their place, free agent Lonergan is set to step into the fold to offer a wealth of experience as the ex-goalkeeper for the likes of Leeds, Bolton and Fulham.
The Preston-born stopper, 35, has been without a club since leaving Championship outfit Middlesbrough at the end of last season.
He previously faced Liverpool twice in the FA Cup, first with his hometown club in 2009 and latterly in a fourth-round replay with Bolton Wanderers in 2015.
Liverpool will take on Jurgen Klopp’s old club Borussia Dortmund in Notre Dame Stadium on Friday before facing Sevilla at Boston’s Fenway Park two days later.
The multi-city tour of the States is set to culminate with a game against Sporting Lisbon at New York’s Yankee Stadium on July 24.
