Liverpool slammed for ‘disrespectful’ Suarez leak

John Henry has been branded ‘disrespectful’ over divulging Arsenal’s bid for Luis Suarez.

Liverpool’s principal owner publicly took aim at the Londoners after they tabled an audacious £40,000,001 offer for a want-away Suarez in summer 2013.

Responding to the Gunners, Henry posted ‘What do you think they’re smoking over there at [the] Emirates?’ from his personal Twitter account.

Suarez eventually left Anfield a year later for Barcelona which came amid another controversy after he bit Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder at the World Cup.

But Arsenal’s former transfer negotiator Dick Law has questioned Henry and the Reds for going public about their Premier League rivals’ bid for the Uruguayan.

“Liverpool wanted to make a big deal out of it and that’s fine. When they received our offer they immediately publicised it,” he told Goal.com.

“I think John Henry wanted to know what we were smoking, which I thought was a bit disrespectful.

“It was him having a bit of a go because he was getting ready to lose his star player. It was a good way to deflect attention.

“I always thought that the move to publicise it was counter-productive.

“I thought Liverpool shot themselves in the foot by basically saying they were now forced to entertain offers because of this clause.

“By publicising it they just made everyone aware and eventually they lost the player.”
