RB Leipzig chief: Werner could join Liverpool

RB Leipzig’s CEO has hinted that Timo Werner could join Liverpool this summer.

Werner is set to draw attention from a host of Europe’s elite clubs after refusing to extend his stay with the Bundesliga outfit beyond the end of next season.

Bayern Munich were the favourites to secure the Germany international’s signature but face competition from a host of teams including the Reds.

This season has marked another prolific campaign for Werner, who is currently on 19 goals in his 34 appearances for the Red Bull-owned outfit.

And Leipzig chief Oliver Mintzlaff believes Anfield is a viable destination for the 23-year-old as well as naming Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund.

“The situation is still the same. Timo Werner would rather not sign an extension, but that could change,” he told Sky Germany.

“I don’t think it’s completely out of the question that he could extend his deal. We haven’t talked to Bayern Munich about Timo Werner yet.

“Maybe he doesn’t even want to go to Munich. Maybe he would rather join Tuchel in Paris, Klopp at Liverpool or Favre at Dortmund.”

Liverpool’s interest in Werner intensified in recent months with Naby Keita and Sadio Mane both urging the striker to consider a move to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
