Robertson fires title warning to Man City

Andy Robertson has warned Manchester City that Liverpool will lay siege to their Premier League crown again next season.

A solitary point separated the teams in the current campaign’s battle for supremacy, with Pep Guardiola’s side recording back-to-back titles.

The Reds racked up 97 points overall in their closest attempt to ending a domestic drought which dates back to the summer of 1990.

But unlike previous challenges, which saw the Anfield club fall short in subsequent seasons, Robertson believes Jurgen Klopp’s side will not let up.

He said: “We will go into next season as strong as ever.

“Man City know, hopefully, we are here to stay – we know they are definitely here to stay, they are incredible.

“Then all the teams have to catch us as there was quite a gap between second and third.

“They all need to come up to us and if they do it will be an incredible title race next season.”

Liverpool’s current season still has another two-and-a-half weeks to go with a Champions League final meeting against Tottenham at the start of June.

And Robertson believes that the showpiece of Europe’s elite club competition is the only thing which matters following the conclusion of the league campaign.

“Of course, we have the Champions League to play for,” admits the defender.

“Everything else is forgotten about. In my opinion it won’t be thought of that we came second in the Premier League and all that nonsense.

“It is a one-off game. Tottenham are a fantastic team with a wonderful manager and what they have done has been incredible and we know how hard it will be.

“We look forward to that game and if we play our best hopefully we get our hands on the trophy.”
