Liverpool trio on PFA awards shortlist

Three Liverpool players are in the running for this season’s PFA awards.

Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane have been named on the shortlist for Player of the Year while Trent Alexander-Arnold has made the list for Young Player.

Mane is just one goal behind teammate Mohamed Salah, who won last year’s PFA accolade, with 23 goals in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Van Dijk, meanwhile, has been the kingpin of a Liverpool defence that has kept 18 clean sheets and conceded just 20 goals in the Premier League this season.

The pair face competition from current title rivals Manchester City, who have seen Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero all nominated.

Chelsea’s Eden Hazard is also in the six-man list while Alexander-Arnold will have to battle Sterling as well as two of his fellow England internationals.

Alexander-Arnold is enjoying his most productive season in the first-team ranks at Anfield with one goal and nine assists to his name in all competitions.

The winners are set to be announced on April 28 at the PFA’s awards ceremony.
