Dejan Lovren is set to miss Liverpool’s trip to Manchester United this weekend.
Lovren had been due to return to action for the first time in six weeks when the Reds took on Bayern Munich in Tuesday’s Champions League last 16 first leg tie.
The Croatia international sought advice from a specialist in his homeland in efforts to overcome a hamstring injury which has ruled him out of action since January 7.
Doubts over his involvement against Niko Kovac’s side surfaced after he was absent from the final training session before the Anfield encounter.
But Jurgen Klopp has now revealed that Lovren will not be available in time for the Bundesliga champions’ visit or even Sunday’s upcoming trip to Old Trafford.
He said: “There was not a real doubt, to be honest.
“It was not mind games but Dejan had no chance for the game today actually, I don’t think he even has a chance for the next game. He will take his time.
“It was clear Fabinho and Joel have to play tonight, so we trained it – we tried everything – and now hopefully the boys are ready.”
