Jurgen Klopp has paid tribute to Jose Mourinho after his Manchester United sacking.
Mourinho was relieved of his duties at Old Trafford on Tuesday, barely two days since presiding over a comprehensive 3-1 humbling at the hands of Liverpool.
The Portuguese coach’s departure comes as the Red Devils currently stand 19 points adrift of their Anfield counterparts and current Premier League leaders.
But Klopp reflected on Mourinho’s long-standing track record in management.
“He’s a very competitive guy, very ambitious, really competitive. He has all my respect,” said Klopp.
“He’s unbelievably successful and I can imagine the last few months were not a joy for nobody, especially not him.
“It’s not nice when you have to face these questions every day but nobody can take away all the things he has won.
“I wish he has that in his mind and not other things that have happened in the last few months.
“He’s an outstanding manager.”
