Klopp hopeful of Firmino return against PSG

Roberto Firmino could return to action in Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazil international suffered an eye injury during Saturday’s win over Tottenham in an on-the-ball tussle with Jan Vertonghen at Wembley.

Firmino was taken to hospital following the incident, where examinations confirmed that there was no lasting damage to the player’s eye socket.

Jurgen Klopp remains hopeful that the striker can be available in time for his side’s Group C opener against the Ligue 1 champions at Anfield on Tuesday.

“He couldn’t play today, no chance, but we are hoping tomorrow,” said Klopp.

“It is good news [that] it will be close. It was a big relief for all of us.

“When everyone saw the picture after the game, we were all shocked. It’s painful. Nobody wants to have that or needs that but he will be fine.”
