Jurgen Klopp questions Liverpool FC’s Premier League fixture scheduling

Jurgen Klopp has questioned the decision to schedule Liverpool’s trip to Swansea City for a midday kick-off.

Sunday’s trip to the Liberty Stadium comes little over 48 hours after the Reds arrived back from their Europa League semi-final defeat to Villarreal.

The original clash was due to take place at 12.45pm on Saturday but owing to Liverpool’s continental commitments broadcasters BT Sport are now set to screen the clash at 12pm on the Sunday, due to rivals Sky Sports showing games at 2pm and 4pm respectively.

And ahead of Liverpool’s visit to Wales, Klopp admits he is perplexed by the decision.

He said: “Sunday at 12 o’clock? I can’t believe that.

“I am pretty sure no-one slept immediately when we got home. Before I think about who will play I think we should prepare for this game and then I will know more about Swansea.

“I think we know how intensive the game will be and we have to think about this and not the result. We have to make a few difficult decisions with the line-up.

“We’ve done this in the last few weeks with changing a lot because of the intensity of all our matches. We need fresh legs and fresh minds.

“It wouldn’t make sense to start with the same line-up as yesterday. We will make a few changes I have no idea how many at the moment. It is Sunday: all English people will have lunch and we play football. I think it is my first time at 12 o’clock.

‘It would be interesting to know who makes these things. A few years ago at Dortmund we played at Athens and they cancelled their game so they could beat Dortmund in the Champions League.

“I’m not sure who made the decision about letting us play at 12 but we can’t change it.

“I don’t want to make headlines. I don’t want to come from Germany and tell people how it works or how it is. I think no-one in this room thinks it is usual after the games we’ve had we should start at 12.”
