Fabinho hopeful of luring Mbappe to Liverpool

Fabinho is hopeful of convincing Kylian Mbappe to join him at Liverpool.

The teenager enjoyed a starring role in France’s World Cup triumph this summer and scored during their 4-2 win over Croatia in last weekend’s final.

Mbappe played alongside the new Reds midfielder at Monaco before joining Paris Saint-Germain last year as they went on to lift the Ligue 1 title.

But Fabinho’s own £43.7 million move to Anfield in May did not go unnoticed by his former teammate, who was among those to offer him well wishes.

And the Brazil international admits that he will endeavour to convince Mbappe to someday join him in the ranks at Anfield – even if it is unlikely this summer.

He said: “Kylian has already said he will remain at PSG for the next season but I will try slowly to convince him to come to Liverpool.

“He sent me a message congratulating me on going to Liverpool. I have not had the chance to congratulate him yet on what he did winning the World Cup.

“But what France did was fantastic. What Mbappé did in two years of professional football is amazing.

“He is a phenomenon and needs to be congratulated. As soon as I have the chance I will.”
