Liverpool FC handed fresh injury boost as Divock Origi avoids surgery

Liverpool have been boosted by news that Divock Origi does not require surgery on a ruptured ankle ligament injury.

The Belgium international sustained the damage during last week’s Merseyside derby win over Everton and had looked set to miss his country’s Euro 2016 campaign in France, as well as the Europa League final as a result.

But a further scan has revealed that Origi does not need surgery on the problem and may only be sidelined for an additional three weeks, meaning that he could potentially return to action before the end of the season.

Origi will definitely miss both legs of Liverpool’s Europa League semi-final against Villarreal but could have an outside chance of featuring in the May 18 final if Jurgen Klopp’s side were to overcome their Spanish counterparts.

The 21-year-old was just starting to find his form for the Reds, netting five goals in his last five games and establishing himself as first choice in Klopp’s starting XI before succumbing to the injury.
