Mignolet hints at possible Liverpool departure

Simon Mignolet could leave Liverpool in search of regular first-team football.

Mignolet last featured for the Reds in their New Year’s Day win over Burnley and has failed to displace his former understudy Loris Karius ever since.

The Belgium international, 30, is on the verge of marking his five-year anniversary at Anfield and remains under contract until summer 2021.

Speaking to media in his homeland, Mignolet admitted that he is not prepared to spend another season playing the role of a perennial substitute.

“I still have a contract for three seasons and I am not busy with what is going to happen this summer,” he told HLN.

“I work for the team and the World Cup.

“The rest is for club people and agents.”

Asked about spending another season as an understudy, he added: “Absolutely not, this is really nothing for me, it has already been too long.

“I’m much more nervous on the bench than on the pitch.

“I want to be able to contribute something.”
