Liverpool FC legend Steven Gerrard leads Hillsborough verdict tributes

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard paid a touching tribute to praise the verdicts of the Hillsborough disaster inquest.

A verdict of unlawful killing was returned earlier this week on the tragedy in Sheffield, of which Gerrard’s cousin Jon-Paul Gilhooley was the youngest victim, aged just 10.

And the 35-year-old, currently playing in the MLS for LA Galaxy, saluted the efforts of those who had campaigned for justice.

In a post on his Instagram account, which featured a picture of the Hillsborough memorial at Anfield, he wrote the message: “JFT96 #YNWA.”

Gerrard’s former Liverpool teammate Jamie Carragher also took Twitter to post his support for the verdicts, tweeting “Justice Finally. #JFT96.”

Among countless other messages from the national and global football community, Liverpool-born players Wayne Rooney and Joey Barton also sent messaged their support.

“At last justice for the 96 and their families. Well done to all who never gave up #JFT96”, tweeted Manchester United striker Rooney.

“Proud to be a Scouser today. Gone but never, ever forgotten! #JFT96”, added Burnley midfielder Barton.
