Anfield to host Brazil’s World Cup warm-up clash

Anfield will host a World Cup warm-up between Brazil and Croatia this summer.

The five-time winners of the competition will take on the ‘Vatreni’ at Liverpool’s home on Sunday, June 3 in anticipation of this summer’s finals in Russia.

Reds duo Roberto Firmino and Dejan Lovren are expected to face off at their current stomping ground alongside former teammate Philippe Coutinho.

Davor Suker, president of the Croatian Football Federation, said: “Brazil is the most attractive team in the world, and it makes me proud that the Croatian Football Federation has managed to agree this spectacular match in Liverpool.

“We are especially looking forward to enjoying the atmosphere at Anfield, where Croatia has never played before.

“It’s a historic venue and I am convinced that our players will enjoy this match, along with our fans and all spectators.

“A match between two great sides such as Brazil and Croatia is surely worthy of such an iconic stadium.”

Billy Hogan, Liverpool’s managing director and chief commercial officer added: “We are delighted to welcome two world-class teams to Anfield.

“Our iconic stadium will provide a perfect backdrop for such an exciting game in the run up to this summer’s World Cup and we are sure that players and fans alike will have a fantastic time.”

Brazil’s previous four visits to Liverpool have all come at Goodison Park, three of which happened in their 1966 World Cup group stage campaign.

Their most recent visit was for an Umbro Cup encounter with Japan in 1995.

The Selecao will take on Austria in Vienna’s Ernst-Happel Stadion a week after their Anfield visit while Croatia face Senegal just five days later.
