Liverpool FC defender wants to remain at Anfield

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure wants to remain at Anfield next season, provided that he can continue to make a contribution to the first team.

Toure has only made 22 appearances in all competitions for the Reds this campaign, and the 35 year-old’s contract is due to expire this summer.

However manager Jurgen Klopp said this week that the former Ivory Coast international does remain in his future plans, reassurance which has been welcomed by Toure.

“It’s great to hear that from the manager.”

“As long as I can bring something (to the team) I’m happy to stay, but if I can’t, then there is no point”, added the former Arsenal defender.

Toure is likely to stand in for Mamadou Sakho in Thursday Europa League first leg clash with Villarreal, following the Frenchman’s omission as part of a UEFA doping investigation.

Toure was banned for six months in 2011 after testing positive to a banned substance contained within diet pills, and he has warned that Sakho faces a tough few months ahead.

“Right now I haven’t spoken to Mama, to be honest. I’ve been there and it has been really difficult, definitely.”
