Hillsborough inquest jury set to return verdict on 1989 disaster tomorrow

The jury at the Hillsborough inquest will return its verdict at 11am on Tuesday morning in Warrington.

Deliberations have lasted over three weeks, with over two years worth of evidence assessed, and a verdict has now been reached.

The inquest into the tragic deaths of 96 Liverpool fans during their FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on April 15, 1989, began in March 2014 at Birchwood Park, Warrington.

Hundreds of people have testified regarding the events of that day, including both before and after the disaster, as well as moving written portraits of those who lost their lives.

Jurors have also heard medical and pathological evidence from experts, including Sir John Goldring, relating to the circumstances of each individuals death.

The jury, comprised of six women and three men, retired to consider their verdict on April 6th and were given 14 questions to answer as part of their deliberations.

Tuesday’s verdict is hoped to bring a greater degree of truth relating to the events on that tragic day 27 years ago.
