Liverpool are battling with Arsenal for Schalke midfielder Max Meyer.
Meyer is now in the final six months of his existing deal at the Veltins Arena and currently free to negotiate a move away under the Bosman ruling.
That has alerted clubs across Europe, with the Reds reportedly among them.
According to CalcioMercato, Liverpool have identified Germany international Meyer after losing Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in the January window.
The Brazilian’s move to the Nou Camp has left Jurgen Klopp’s side lacking in a creative no.10 figure and the 22-year-old is being tipped to fill that void.
A versatility in playing across the entire midfield serves as an added bonus, but Liverpool would face stern competition in landing Meyer’s signature.
Arsenal have also been credited with interest despite recently signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan while AC Milan remain keen despite trailing the Premier League duo.
