Adam Lallana is set to avoid a Premier League ban after despite sent off for Liverpool’s under-23 side.
Lallana was handed a straight red card in the Reds’ 1-0 defeat in Monday’s clash with Tottenham after he grabbed midfielder George Marsh around the neck.
The England international had to be pulled away by teammate Danny Ings following the incident, which stemmed from an apparent elbow by Marsh.
Liverpool u23 manager Neil Critchley said: “I have never seen Adam react like that.
“I’d like to see the incident again. It was ironic as we were just about to bring Liam Millar on. He was actually coming off.”
But despite the violent conduct dismissal, Lallana will not face any senior disciplinary action for the incident at Stevenage’s Broadhall Way stadium.
It means the 29-year-old is free to appear for Liverpool when they taken on his former club Southampton this weekend.
A combination of thigh and groin injuries has limited Lallana to just one first-team appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s side so far.
