Christian Benteke handed fresh Liverpool FC lifeline by Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has opened the door for Christian Benteke’s Liverpool return following Divock Origi’s injury.

Origi suffered ankle ligament damage during Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Everton following an X-rated challenge by Ramiro Funes Mori that now threatens to rule him out for Belgium’s Euro 2016 campaign.

The Belgium international’s setback leaves the Reds painfully short in the striking department, with Daniel Sturridge now currently the only first-team forward available to Klopp for tomorrow’s visit of Newcastle.

Benteke has spent the past month on the sidelines in a disastrous first season at Anfield, but Klopp has hinted that the £32 million signing could soon stepping into the fold in the absence of compatriot Origi.

He said: The good news is Christian feels good but he has not trained with the team yet.

“Hopefully we can give him a few more days, a few more sessions.

“When one door shuts, another door opens.”

Klopp has also refused to discount Origi making an injury comeback for Liverpool before the end of this season.

He said: “It’s serious. What can I say? We will try everything but we just have to work with him and see what happens.

“I did my ACL (ligament) and played after four months. No-one could believe it.

“I am long enough in this business to know we’re all different we are all individuals. We have to work with him and see.”
