Jurgen Klopp has blocked Ben Woodburn’s Liverpool exit this month.
Woodburn had been set to head out on loan, with the Reds manager acknowledging the youngster needs regular game time to aid his development.
Sunderland were particularly keen on Woodburn, with Chris Coleman hoping their Wales connection would convince him to move to the Stadium of Light.
However, that potential switch has now been ended with Klopp deciding to keep hold of Liverpool’s youngest-ever goal scorer.
After losing Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona, the German has decided that he needs Woodburn as back up to his current first-team strikers.
The teenager is highly regarded at Anfield and was rewarded with a new five-year deal in October, a sign of the club’s faith in him.
He is yet to make a Premier League appearance this season, though, with his only first team appearance coming in the League Cup defeat to Leicester City.
