Liverpool offer fans Coutinho exit compensation

Liverpool have offered to refund fans who bought Philippe Coutinho shirts this season.

The Brazilian is set to complete his £142 million move to Barcelona in the coming days after a deal was agreed between the clubs on Saturday.

Barca are set to pay Liverpool in the region of £105m upfront while performance-related clauses would push that figure up to £142m overall.

Should Coutinho meet all those bonuses during his time in Catalonia, he would become the second most-expensive player in football history.

His impending departure means supporters who have paid to have the playmaker’s name adorning their shirts will be left out of pocket.

But Liverpool have offered to soften the blow by offering fans a £50 voucher to replace their replica kit in the wake of Coutinho’s sale.

A club statement said: “The offer – which applies to all shirts purchased in official club outlets and via the official LFC website – follows today’s announcement that Coutinho will join FC Barcelona and reflects the exceptional circumstances behind the player’s departure.”
