Liverpool could sign Riyad Mahrez as Philippe Coutinho’s replacement.
Attention has turned to the Leicester City talisman after the Reds sanctioned Coutinho’s protracted £142 million move to Barcelona on Saturday.
Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar remains firmly on Liverpool’s transfer radar as they prepare for life without their Brazilian playmaker.
But various reports claim that Mahrez is also on Jurgen Klopp’s hit list after inspiring the Foxes to an unlikely Premier League title triumph in 2016.
According to beIn Sports France, the Algeria international is expected to undergo a medical with the Anfield club in anticipation of a club-record £49m switch.
Claude Puel is keen to keep Mahrez at the King Power Stadium since he returned to form with a combined 16 goals and assists in all competitions this season.
However Leicester’s owners are understood to have informed the 26-year-old that he will only be allowed to leave this month if a reasonable offer is made.
“We have a lot of strikers and offensive players and we need to have good balance to give them game time,” said Puel.
“I am happy with him [Mahrez] and I think he is enjoying his football.
“He is happy to play with this team. He has good results with assists and goals in recent games.
“I think it is important he keeps this focus and concentration until the end of the season.”
