Sturridge suffers fresh Liverpool setback

Daniel Sturridge has been dealt another injury blow in his Liverpool career.

The England international last featured for the Reds during their 7-0 win over Spartak Moscow in the Champions League earlier this month.

Illness saw Sturridge become a notable absentee in recent weeks but had hoped to make a return in time for Saturday’s visit of Leicester City to Anfield.

However Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the striker, 28, will now be absent for the game with the Foxes after picking up another in a long line of muscle injuries.

He said: “Daniel Sturridge was ill and now (has) a little muscle thing.

“It’s not a big deal, to be honest, but in this period all these things keep you away from games.

“That’s not too cool for us, of course, but since yesterday not a lot (else happened).”

Sturridge’s four years with Liverpool have regularly been hampered by injuries.

He has managed just three goals in 14 appearances so far this season, missing six Premier League games alone this year through various fitness issues.
