Jurgen Klopp bemoans ‘shadow’ over emphatic Liverpool FC derby win

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he wasn’t able to fully enjoy Liverpool’s resounding 4-0 win over Everton.

Origi had looked set to lead the Reds’ front-line in next week’s Europa League semi-final first leg against Villarreal after continuing a recent run of good form by opening the scoring in last night’s Anfield clash.

But a horror tackle by Ramiro Funes Mori, which saw the Everton defender sent off, saw the Belgium international stretchered off with an ankle injury.

And Klopp admits that while the initial prognosis is not as severe as originally feared, Origi’s forced withdrawal was a blemish on Liverpool’s victory in the 226th Merseyside derby.

He said: “It is a big shadow on the game to be honest.

“Usually if you tell me before the game that we will win 4-0, I would think I would feel different.

“Now we have to wait for final assessment. It is too early now.

“When I came in, everyone who had seen the pictures were worried it (the ankle) was broken, but it is not. I went to see Divock in the medical room. I saw him smiling.

“The ankle is twisted, and we have to wait to see what has happened to the ligaments. That’s how it is.”
