Anfield will prevent Sevilla repeat, insists Klopp

Jurgen Klopp says Anfield’s famous atmosphere will prevent a repeat of the capitulation against Sevilla.

The Reds host Spartak Moscow at Anfield on Wednesday in their final game of the Champions League group stages.

They currently sit top of Group E on nine points and need a win over the Russian side to ensure they top the group heading into the knockout phases.

There is a sense of nervous anticipation heading into the game after they blew a 3-0 lead away to Sevilla, who currently sit second in the group on eight points, in the previous round of fixtures.

Klopp, though, insists that will not happen, calling on the Anfield faithful to ensure the atmosphere is a special one.

“It is the game. Whatever you want. We are only part of the Champions League because we want to go to the next round,” he said.

“All the good and bad things that have happened so far in the Champions League, mostly good, brought us to this situation.

“If we win, we are through so that is cool. I know that a lot of people will be saying tomorrow ‘we could already be through’ but that’s not life..

“It is how it is; I’m really looking forward to. We are stronger than we are when we played them but so are they. It will be an exciting game, that’s how the Champions League should be.

“There is no reason to think about that (the Sevilla game). I cannot think before each game that we will have a 3-0 lead and the other team will come back.

“I’ve said already that in Seville that if we had been 3-0 up at Anfield it would not have happened. I really think the atmosphere can and should help us.

“We all know how special this place can be in specific moments and it’s what I’m looking for. It’s what I want and hopefully everybody knows that.”
