Simon Mignolet has been dropped for Liverpool’s game with Arsenal.
The Belgium international was an ever-present in the Reds’ goal since last December, following Loris Karius’ disapponting start to his Anfield career.
But Jurgen Klopp made the shock decision to omit Mignolet from his squad for thes Premier League clash with the Gunners on Sunday afternoon.
Karius will assume the no.1 role with third-choice goalkeeper Danny Ward serving as the German’s understudy against Arsene Wenger’s side.
Liverpool last fielded Karius in January’s FA Cup exit to Wolves while his previous league outing came in a 2-2 draw with West Ham last December.
Mignolet succeeded the German just days later for a 3-0 win at Middlesbrough.
He’s rested, that’s all,” explained Klopp.
“He didn’t want to rest, it’s not a problem. We spoke yesterday about it and I really thought it made sense, especially because we have the quality in behind.
“It is just because I want to let him have a rest after this really intense time with really good performances for us.
“But with the other boys, we wanted a situation like this; we wanted to have three strong goalkeepers.
“They’ve shown up in training, they are really ambitious, they want to have game time, they want to have games, so today Loris is starting.”
