Coutinho wants Liverpool FC clear-the-air talks

Philippe Coutinho wants to begin his Liverpool reconciliation with clear-the-air talks.

Coutinho submitted a transfer request to the Reds’ hierarchy 11 days ago in a bid to force through a proposed move to Barcelona before the Catalans withdrew their interest last weekend.

Barca had believed that they would eventually wear down Liverpool despite owners Fenway Sports Group issuing a ‘definitive’ statement that the player was not for sale.

But after three bids of £72 million, £90.2m and £114m were all turned down by the Anfield club, the Brazilian is facing up to the prospect of another season in England.

The Independent claim that Coutinho, who is suffering from a back injury, is now hoping to bring an end to his current stand-off with Liverpool.

Representatives of the playmaker are understood to have blamed Barcelona for the email sent by Coutinho to sporting director Michael Edwards on August 11.

Ernesto Valverde’s side have conceded defeat in their pursuit of Coutinho and are now turning their attention to a number of alternative targets.

They include Nice midfielder Jean-Michel Seri and Angel Di Maria at Paris Saint-Germain, who signed Barca’s talisman Neymar earlier this month.

Jurgen Klopp informed Coutinho that he would not be sold this summer and maintained last weekend that there was no change in Liverpool’s not-for-sale stance.

Barcelona had hoped to force the club’s hand with a desperate ultimatum which demanded that their £114m offer was accepted before Sunday evening.
