Barcelona issue bizarre Coutinho ultimatum

Barcelona have issued a bizarre ultimatum in their pursuit of Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool rejected a third offer from the Catalans on Friday worth an overall £114 million, having turned down bids of £90.2m and £70m previously.

The Brazil international has informed Jurgen Klopp that he wishes to move to the Nou Camp and is said to have refused to play for the Anfield club again.

Reds owners Fenway Sports Group remain unwilling to entertain the potential sale of Coutinho at any price as outlined in an official statement last week.

That preceded Coutinho emailing a formal transfer request to sporting director Michael Edwards in attempts to force through a move to Barcelona.

But Barca have now warned Liverpool that they will walk away from talks.

According to The Times, they have demanded a response to their latest offer for Coutinho, who is sidelined by a back injury, by Sunday evening or it will be formally withdrawn.

Klopp revealed after his side’s Premier League win over Crystal Palace that there had been no further developments on the 25-year-old’s future.

He said: “No nothing new from the injury side.

“If I speak to the owners [about Coutinho] I don’t think this is a situation I should talk about here.

“But I am informed about everything in the club. Nothing has changed.”
