Liverpool are reportedly keen on Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes.
Gomes endured a difficult debut season at the Nou Camp following a €35 million (£31.6m) move from Valencia and found himself deployed in defence on occasion.
But reports in Spain suggest that the Reds are understood to be willing to offer the Portugal international, 24, a potential career lifeline this summer.
Mundo Deportivo claim Jurgen Klopp’s interest in Gomes may also offer Barca fresh hope in their attempts to lure Philippe Coutinho away from Anfield.
Various reports last weekend had alleged that the Catalans’ pursuit of Coutinho was set to be scrapped in favour of a move for Juventus’ Paulo Dybala.
Liverpool rebuffed a £72 million approach for the Brazilian playmaker last motnh and have repeatedly maintained that he is not for sale at any price.
However Barca believe that Gomes could be used as a makeweight in their plans to sign the 25-year-old on a part-exchange deal.
Coutinho missed Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao with a back injury but is expected to return for Saturday’s Premier League opener at Watford.
