Alexander-Arnold pens new Liverpool FC deal

Trent Alexander-Arnold has signed a new five-year contract with Liverpool.

The promising defender penned a fresh extension to his Anfield career, just eight months after he originally pledged his long-term future to the club.

Jurgen Klopp’s decision to reward Alexander-Arnold comes on the back of a breakthrough season in which he made 12 senior appearances for the Reds.

Since making his debut in an EFL Cup win over Tottenham, the 18-year-old has featured in Premier League clashes with Manchester United, Arsenal and Everton.

He said: “I feel happy to be playing for my local team and fulfilling the dreams of basically every kid in the city.

“It means a lot, knowing there are a lot of people who want to be in my position. I can’t take it for granted, the position and opportunity I’ve been given.

“Every day I’m trying to maximise the opportunity and do well. Hopefully that’s what I’ll do this season.”

Klopp has hailed Alexander-Arnold’s professionalism which prompted the new deal.

“It is fantastic news and brilliant that the club have again rewarded his progress,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.

“I think our appeal to young players with the right attitude is clear: if they commit to their football we will make sure we do well for their present and futures.

“Trent and the people he has in his life – personally and professionally – make such smart decisions.

“I love that he is so humble, yet has such big ambitions. This is a wonderful mixture.

“The club have made it clear to all our young players that as they grow and improve so will our commitment to them. This is an example of that.

“We offer opportunity – that’s key to what we believe in – but we also offer a culture where progress is rewarded. Trent has earned this new deal.”
