Solanke could cost Liverpool FC up to £10m

Dominic Solanke could cost Liverpool £10 million in compensation.

The striker will move to Anfield on July 1 when his current Chelsea contract expires but could now be the subject of a financial tug-of-war between the clubs.

An initial £3m fee was expected to be paid to the Premier League champions for their role in Solanke’s development due to the player being under the age of 24.

But the 19-year-old’s exploits for England’s under-20 side as they lifted the World Cup last weekend has seen Chelsea challenge their anticipated figure.

Solanke was awarded the Golden Ball as player of tournament in South Korea, where he scored four times as his country were crowned world champions.

Chelsea believe that due to the impressive displays, the player’s value has dramatically increased and are keen to secure an increased compensation fee.

If the clubs cannot reach an agreement, the Londoners are preparing to take the matter to court to settle the case before an independent tribunal.

Last April, Liverpool were ordered to pay £6.5m to Burnley for their role in Danny Ings’ development after the striker secured a free transfer in 2015.
