Liverpool FC should be ashamed of top four finish

Roy Keane believes Liverpool should be ashamed of celebrating a top four finish.

Champions League football looks set to return to Anfield next season as Jurgen Klopp’s side continue to hold firm with three games left of the campaign to play.

The Reds are battling Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United in a bid to secure the Premier League’s final automatic place for Europe’s elite competition.

But United legend Keane insists that both his former club and Liverpool should have no cause for celebration if they do secure returns to the Champions League.

He said: “When I see clubs like Liverpool and Man United celebrating getting into the top four, I cringe at it, I really do.

“Any of these big clubs: do you think that Real Madrid and Barcelona would be celebrating getting fourth? Come on, get a grip.

“It is about getting your hands on a trophy. People talk about getting into the top four because of the financial rewards and it was great for teams like Leicester to qualify.

“But for the big teams, Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal, celebrating fourth? I say shame on you.”
