Liverpool plan to honour the survivors of the Hillsborough disaster with a commemorative tribute at Anfield.
A specially designed ‘Survivors Bench’ is set to be installed outside the stadium later this year opposite the memorial to those who perished in the 1989 tragedy.
The bench will features a pattern of interlocking lines to represent the multitude of scarves that adorned the Kop and pitch in the aftermath of Hillsborough.
Anfield officials have been in discussions with the bereaved families to create a lasting memorial to acknowledge survivors from the fateful day in Sheffield.
A special plaque will also be installed in front of the bench reading:
“Liverpool Football Club and families of the 96 extend their eternal gratitude to those who endeavoured to save the lives of others at Hillsborough on the 15th April 1989, and to all survivors and the wider football family who supported the campaign for truth and justice for so long.
“You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
