Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool will promote Steven Gerrard to an Academy coaching role.
Gerrard is expected to take over the Reds’ under-18 side next season after impressing Klopp and youth chief Alex Inglethorpe since his return to Anfield.
Since February, the 36-year-old has been working as a floating role that has seen him work with varying age groups at the club’s academy base in Kirkby.
Although Klopp remained tight-lipped on Gerrard’s new position, the Liverpool manager fully expects the former captain to be installed in a permanent position.
He said: “There’s no real announcement, but what I can say is yes (Gerrard will be promoted)
“He’s doing a real [good] job in this moment at the Academy; being around and giving advice, leading bigger sessions, all that stuff.
“They all enjoy it a lot, especially him. He will be the coach of the youth team in the next season, I’m pretty sure.
“But we’ll tell you exactly which team when we want to tell you.”
