Liverpool FC sweating on Roberto Firmino for Burnley

Roberto Firmino is a doubt for Liverpool’s clash with Burnley, Jurgen Klopp has revealed.

The Brazil international suffered a slight injury in the Reds’ 3-1 win over Arsenal last weekend and has struggled to train properly since receiving the knock.

Firmino now faces a battle to be fit in time for Sunday’s visit of the Clarets, with striker Divock Origi currently on standby to lead the line in his absence.

Liverpool are also set to be without Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge, who remain sidelined with a severely bruised foot and a hip injury respectively.

When asked about the duo, Klopp said: “No, not available.

“Unfortunately Roberto Firmino [is struggling], he felt something after the game.

“He couldn’t train this week, we need to wait a little bit more then we will see.”

Klopp admitted he is also facing uncertainty over whether Dejan Lovren will be able to return to action against Sean Dyche’s side following knee problems.

Ragnar Klavan has deputised during the Croatian’s lay-off alongside Joel Matip in defence and excelled during the 3-1 victory over the Gunners last weekend.

“Ragnar had wonderful games for us, especially the last one. No decision has been made to start the game,” added Klopp.

“Joel struggled [with injury], Ragnar was ill, Lovren out a long time and now back in training – we will see.

“Consistency in the lineup is good, the longer you can play together the better for the team, the things you learn about each other, without thinking about it.

“‘If he steps out I have to protect this situation’, for the centre-back pairing, that’s pretty important.

“We had the situation, we made the best of it and now in this moment they’re all fit. Now I have the choice and I will use this opportunity.”
