Klopp: Claudio Ranieri sacking ‘like Brexit and Trump’

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has compared Claudio Ranieri’s sacking at Leicester City to Brexit and Donald Trump becoming US president.

Ranieri was relieved of his duties on Thurday, barely nine months after he guided the Foxes to a most unlikely Premier League title triumph.

The Reds will be the first side to visit the King Power Stadium since Ranieri’s departure when they take on Leicester on Monday night.

Klopp has expressed his dismay at the Italian’s misfortune and likened the reigning champions’ decision to jettison him with recent political trends.

He said: “I heard about it yesterday night. What can I say? Am I surprised that things like this can happen? No.

“It’s not only football, for me there’s a few strange decisions in 2016/17 – Brexit, Trump, Ranieri.

“Do I have to understand it all the time? Obviously not. I have no idea why Leicester did this.

“Everybody could see the situation in the league, the situation in the Champions League.

“He’s a really special person, I have to say. He’s a really nice guy.

“I met him before, he visited me at Dortmund, we had a nice talk. A wonderful person.

“I don’t know enough, maybe you have to go to Leicester and ask why they did it.”
