Liverpool are set to ensure that they receive a compensation fee for youngster for Jerome Sinclair, should he leave the club this summer.
Sinclair’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season and he has expressed a desire to move on get more first team football.
If Sinclair was to sign for another English club after its expiration, Liverpool would be entitled to a compensation payment, as he is under 24.
Watford are believed to be the club most interested in Sinclair, and the Hornets had a bid of £1.75m rejected in January, with the Reds happy for Sinclair to see out the remainder of his deal.
If the compensation payment was to go to an FA tribunal, Liverpool could be set for a payment in excess of £2m from whichever club Sinclair signs for.
Sinclair was signed for Liverpool as a 14 year-old, has made six senior appearances for the Reds across the three seasons, however he has failed to secure a regular first team spot.
Liverpool adopted a similar position with Australian defender Brad Smith who’s contract ran out last summer, and with no club willing to pay a compensation payment, Smith eventually signed the contract he has previously rejected.
