Liverpool FC set to be trumped to January target

Liverpool face an uphill battle in their efforts to land Julian Draxler.

Jurgen Klopp had hoped to add the Wolfsburg playmaker to his squad in January but has seen the Reds fall behind in the pack chasing the player’s signature.

Both the Anfield club and fellow long-term suitors Arsenal are set to lose out on Draxler to Paris Saint-Germain, who have emerged as firm favourites to sign him.

Wolfsburg are hoping to complete a deal worth £30 million for the World Cup winner, who arrived little more than 18 months ago from Schalke.

Although the Ligue 1 champions remain in pole position, Draxler has broken his silence on the race for his capture insisting that a decision has yet to be made.

“I am in talks with a couple of clubs, but so far no decision has been made,” he told Bild.

“We will all sit down and make a sensible decision that is suitable for us.”
