Liverpool are eyeing a January move for Santos midfielder Thiago Maia.
Maia is expected to leave the Brazilian giants during next month’s transfer window and is already the subject of interest from clubs across Europe.
ESPN Brasil claim that the Reds are in a pack which includes Schalke, Monaco and Napoli in chasing the signature of the promising 19-year-old.
Santos previously accepted a bid of £13.3 million from Zenit St Petersburg but the player himself turned down a move to the Russian heavyweights.
Maia, who was part of his country’s gold medal-winning side at the Rio Olympics, admits the decision where his future will lie next month is still up in the air.
He said: “Santos and my representatives will decide if it’s time for a transfer.
“If the decision is to stay, the supporters can rest easy.
“I want to have another good season, play in the Copa Libertadores and be a champion.”
