Philippe Coutinho has revealed that he is targeting Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City for his anticipated comeback.
Coutinho faced between five and six weeks on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury during the win over Sunderland at the end of November.
Jurgen Klopp previously admitted that he was unsure on a timescale for when the Brazilian playmaker would be ready to return to action for the Reds.
But such has been Coutinho’s rate of recovery that he is personally setting his sights on the New Year’s Eve visit of City to Anfield.
“This is still my hope – to return for this game,” he told the club’s official website.
“The rehab is going really well. I can now walk without crutches and I am working well with the medical team. So I’m pleased with how I am recovering.
He added: “Obviously I have been very frustrated, because like any player who is injured, it is tough to watch rather than play and help the team.
“The last game was a draw and not the result we wanted, but the team still has great quality and I am certain in the next game we will come back stronger.”
