Ian Rush has warned that Joe Allen may leave Liverpool due to his frustration at life under Jurgen Klopp.

Allen’s prospects since Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers earlier this season have been sporadic, with the Reds’ recent defeat at Southampton constituting his first start in over six weeks.

But the Wales midfielder, 26, has flourished in recent outings for his country, against Northern Ireland and the Ukraine, during the recent round of international fixtures.

And Liverpool legend Rush believes his compatriot may seek challenges away from Anfield this summer if he grows tired of being a perennial substitute player under Klopp.

“Joe’s frustrated by not being in the team,” he told Wales Online.

“I’ve seen a lot of players who are happy on the bench, but the thing with Joe Allen is he’s not happy doing that. If he’s not happy then he might well want to move on.

“I think he can do a great job for Liverpool. When he came on against Northern Ireland, that was the difference.”
