Liverpool FC begin search for new coach after Beale exit

Liverpool have begun the search for a new under-23 coach following Michael Beale’s departure.

Beale has left the Reds’ youth setup with immediate effect after four years within the Kirkby operations base to become Rogerio Ceni’s assistant at Sao Paolo.

He was headhunted by the Brazilian club’s newly appointed manager during a recent visit to Merseyside in September.

Tonight’s 1-1 draw with West Brom’s U23 side in the Premier League Cup proved to be the 43-year-old’s last act at Anfield before departing for South America.

Liverpool’s academy director Alex Inglethorpe paid tribute to Beale’s contribution to the setup since 2012.

He said: “Over the last four years I have seen Michael help coach a variety of players across differing age groups.

“He is a talented coach who has great potential to go on and make his mark within the senior game.

“I believe that Michael has been integral to the development of many of our players who have progressed towards the first team and I would like to wish him and his family every success for the future.”

Beale’s departure could see a shake-up in Liverpool’s academy set-up which is expected to pave the way for Steven Gerrard’s anticipated return.
