Liverpool FC coach quits to take up Sao Paulo role

Michael Beale is set to leave Liverpool to to join Sao Paulo’s backroom staff.

Beale has been in charge of the Reds’ under-23 side since 2014 after rising through the club’s academy ranks two years prior at both U15 and U16 level.

But reports in Brazil indicate that he is now set to join Sao Paulo after receintly being headhunted by the club’s newly-appointed manager Rogerio Ceni.

Ceni took the reins of the Campeonato side at the end of last month but Globo Esporte claim that Beale was sounded out on a recent visit to Merseyside.

The 43-year-old is said to have met with Jurgen Klopp and compatriots Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Lucas Leiva during his trip in September.

Beale is expected to finalise his move to South America next week and was pictured alongside Ceni as he took in Sao Paulo’s 4-0 win over Capivariano.

His departure is likely to prompt a shake-up of Liverpool’s academy with U18s coach Neil Critchley and U16s chief Des Maher both potentially being promoted.

The departure of Beale could also pave the way for Steven Gerrard’s highly-anticipated return to the club, with a role in the Academy under consideration.
