Steven Gerrard closing in on Liverpool FC return

Steven Gerrard will make a swift return to Liverpool by joining the club’s coaching staff.

Gerrard announced his retirement from playing on Thursday, which came almost 18 years to the day since he made his professional debut for the Reds.

He turned down an offer to prolong his career at Inter Milan as well as the chance to manage MK Dons but is set to enjoy a highly-anticipated Anfield homecoming.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has pledged to offer Gerrard any help he requires in his post-football career and talks over a potential role remain ongoing.

The 36-year-old is expected to take up a role within the club’s Academy setup, from which he originally graduated in the mid-1990s.

Gerrard has made no secret of his desire to embark on a coaching career and will continue to work towards his UEFA ‘A’ licence while at the Kirkby operations base.
