Philippe Coutinho could miss Liverpool’s trip to Southampton tomorrow.
The Brazilian playmaker is a doubt for the trip to St Mary’s after he was photographed at the city’s Spire hospital on Thursday afternoon.
Coutinho is understood to have attended the private healthcare facility to undergo a scan on a hamstring problem.
He had returned to Merseyside less than 24 hours prior after helping his country secure successive World Cup qualifying wins over Argentina and Peru.
Both Coutinho and Roberto Firmino, also returning from Brazil duty, reported back to Melwood yesterday but did not take part in the Reds’ training session.
Jurgen Klopp is already sweating on the fitness of Adam Lallana, who aggravated a groin problem on England duty in midweek for Saturday’s clash.
Should the winger fail to be passed fit to face his former club, Georginio Wijnaldum is expected to fill the attacking void on the South Coast.
Coutinho’s potential absence is likely to open the door for Daniel Sturridge’s return to the fold after excelling for his country against Scotland last week.
Klopp believes that the striker’s international exploits have had a positive impact upon his return to Liverpool despite speculation surrounding his future.
He said: “My opinion is very good about Daniel. It has never changed.
“I saw the game [against Scotland] and he scored a wonderful goal.
“It’s very positive. When he came back he was happy to see us again.
“I could see it in his face, in his attitude in training and with the fun he had in the session. That’s a good sign.”
