A Liverpool fan group is seeking clarity over investment plans by a consortium involving Jeff Bezos.
The Amazon mogul and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin are part of the group seeking to buy a 30% stake of the Anfield club for £1.35 billion.
Amit Bhatia is heading up the bid with his father-in-law and steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal also on board in a move that involves three of the world’s biggest wealth creators.
Confirmation of the ‘strategic’ buy-in could arrive as early as this week with Reds’ owners Fenway Sports Group currently in talks with former QPR chairman Bhatia.
However Spirit of Shankly confirmed on Tuesday that it has written to the Americans requesting further details on what the deal will mean for the club’s future dynamic.
“We reiterated that, given the events that led to FSG’s purchase of the club, who owns it and how they control it – putting the interests of LFC and its supporters first – is fundamental to us all,” the group said in a statement.
“The latest report of a 30 per cent sale and the consortium set up to buy it is significant. The ownership and custodianship of our club is paramount to SoS and all supporters.
“We have witnessed similar sales at other clubs resulting in notable changes in the running of that club and football operations, leading to decisions and behaviours that many would not want to see at Liverpool.”
