Liverpool have been dealt a fresh injury concern before facing Villarreal.
Andoni Iraola will reunite with his former Rayo Vallecano assistant Inigo Perez when their teams face off in Tuesday’s Champions League encounter at Anfield.
But the Reds may be without Victor Munoz after he was absent from the squad that underwent a pre-match session at the AXA Training Centre on the eve of the game.
Munoz proved influential as the Anfield club pulled off a second half comeback win at Brentford last weekend with the World Cup winner producing the equaliser.
The Spain international had undergone treatment on two separate occasions at the Gtech Community Stadium but was able to continue before he was later withdrawn.
His potential omission would compound Liverpool’s mounting injury list which was increased in London by Iraola braced for new Liverpool injury lay-offssetbacks to Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong.
Earlier on Monday, Iraola had praised Munoz’s early impact on Merseyside
He said: “Obviously Victor is a player that we know very well.
“I also have a great relationship with Alessio Lisci, who was his manager [at Osasuna] in the past season. He speaks also very well.
“Once you have a player, you really understand what he gives to the group. Attitude-wise, I think he is ready to help in whatever position we need him.
“He is playing right, left, the other day he played right-back.
“I think he is a player with hunger. He hasn’t played professionally in a big club like Liverpool.
“But he has been in the academy of Barcelona [and] Real Madrid, has trained with those teams.
“He knows the level that is required in those teams. Also with the national team he is having experience, so he is a player that is adapting really well.”
