Mohamed Salah has explained his tearful farewell to Liverpool supporters.

The Egypt international bowed out after a record-breaking nine years at Anfield following Sunday’s final Premier League game of the season against Brentford.

Salah was visibly emotional as he stood in front of The Kop for the final time in the aftermath of the 1-1 draw which sealed the club’s return to the Champions League.

Vice-captain Andy Robertson is also set to leave the Reds this summer, having joined in the same summer as the 33-year-old’s arrival from Roma in 2017.

Speaking after the last of his 442 appearances for Arne Slot’s side, Salah revealed the emotional turmoil he felt about preparing to leave Merseyside later this month.

“I cried a lot. I think more than I did in my whole life,” he told Sky Sports.

“But it’s very tough to leave a place like this. Also I cried a bit in the training ground. I’m not really an emotional guy, you guys don’t see that in the media that much

You always see me tough, aggressive but inside me I take it like a baby. It’s very tricky. We left our youth here, sharing everything from the beginning until the end.

“We wouldn’t even dream of what we had but we did it for this club. We put it back where it belonged.

This is our message to the players in the dressing room. Look, the club now is fighting for everything. The fans will not accept less than that.

“They don’t care that much about the result as long as you sweat and you give your blood here. They will love you forever.

“So this is my message to you guys: it’s not about talent, it’s about everything.

“This is why he [Robertson] is loved more than anyone probably, because he just gave it all on the field and fans love him for that.

“It’s tricky to leave Liverpool, but this is life and we have to move on.”
